Coachella 2008
February 7, 2008 by Greg

I just bought a plane ticket and a 3 day pass to Coachella. It’s something I’ve always wanted to go to, but have never gotten around to making it happen. This year my friend Jillian facilitated the planning and everything is set to go.
Just a handful of bands I’m really excited about:
- Portishead
- Kraftwerk
- Death Cab for Cutie
- Fatboy Slim
- Tegan and Sara
- M.I.A.
- Junkie XL
- The Streets
- Metric
- Dimitri from Paris
The complete line up.
Anyone else going?

Where are you coming from? last year was my first and it was magical…you’ll love it
I think I would go back every year until the day I die hahaha.
I’m coming from Denver.
Any tips for new attendees?
Hmm let’s see..plenty of tips, in no particular order:
-Make sure you have plenty of funds to stay hydrated all day long
-Don’t forget the sunblock/chapstick
-Don’t count on cell phones to find your friends, agree on meeting places/times as soon as you walk in (walkie talkies are pretty useful though)
-Bring a sweater because the temperature drops drastically at night
-Wet wipes are very very useful (you’ll thank me for that one)
-Lay off the alcohol (at least until night time) it’s overpriced and doesnt work well with the desert heat
-Make sure you check out bands you don’t know, you’ll discover some acts that will blow your mind
-Get away from the stages every once in a while and check out the “Arts” aspect of the festival..some pretty cool stuff going on..and they have other DJ sets that are not necessarily on the poster (i.e. the Do Lab, the Oasis dome, etc..)
-If you plan on buying shirts there make sure you dont go at night and especially not on sunday night..the lines are super long. Oh and that’s the only place where they actually accept debit/credit cards
-Take a short break in the shade if there is a timeslot where you dont want to see any atcs..the 3 days of “partying” + desert heat = pretty exhausting
- If you really care about being in the front for the big acts you want to see (headliners), plan on arriving to that stage 1 act earlier
- Plan ahead when they post the timeslots for the bands, but don’t plan everything to the minute, it will get pretty stressful and you’ll miss out on a lot of things if you heavily rely on a schedule
-Try the frozen lemonade! so refreshing!
-Pay attention to where your car is parked (if you’re renting a car) it can be hard to find it at night once you’re out..try to remember some landmarks around it. last year we took a picture of whatever landmarks were around it and it was extremely helpful
-Avoid heavy food and take some imodium..you wouldn’t want to spend too much time in those lovely portopotties
-Speaking of portopotties, if that really bothers you there are some trailer bathrooms that have longer lines but are cleaner and have sinks..just don’t let your bladder get too full before you head there because it won’t take the wait (same thing with the portos)
-Have the time of your life! Coachella is an amazing and unique experience that you won’t forget
That’s all the advice I can think of for the moment..I hope this helps. I haven’t camped before so I wouldnt be able to tell you anything about that (I’m not camping this year either). Check out the message board on the coachella website..there’s an entire section on camping there
