chinese hooters: at last

Hooters restaurants suck. 

They’re overrun with light beer guzzling, overweight sports fans leering at orange short shorts and high fiving each other with bbq sauce slathered fingers after every point is scored on the omnipresent TVs littering the walls.

The girls?  Often easy on the eyes but for me, their outfits and demeanor suggest I should be seeing a lot more.  It’s almost like going to a strip club with a blindfold on.

Still, when I heard the first Hooters restaurant had opened in Shanghai, I was intrigued.

After reading the article describing it (and seeing the adorable girls pictured above), I think I might have to make an exception and stop in next time I’m in China.

One thing that makes Hooters different from most other restaurants in Shanghai is that the waitresses can chat with customers without being scolded by a manager. That is why the job is so popular among the young women. As they earn pocket money, they can practice English and other languages.

“I like the job here. It provides me a chance to practice my English and learn how to communicate with others,” said Feng Jie, a waitress who started working at Hooters several day earlier.

The management claims a, ahem, innocent strategy when choosing its Hooters girls.

The most important thing is their personality,” said Jiang. “We are looking for the open-minded girls.”
