neil strauss’ satchel of seduction

In his best selling book “The Game”, Neil Strauss unveils a lot of intriguing tools intended to make meeting women easier. One piece that can easily be overlooked as readers race through the book seeking out the “perfect pickup line ” (hint: it doesn’t exist) was his constant club companion, a trusty ‘man purse’.
Admitting Your Mistakes
April 19, 2007 by Greg · 5 Comments
It’s sharing time here at Urban Monarch. I have a mistake I made that I need to get off my chest. Everyday I think about this post,I feel a little a bit of guilt.
This was a really stupid idea. The starch didn’t work as well as commercial products. After about a month, it started to smell bad; like damp towels or moldy carpet. Hell, I don’t even do my own laundry anymore, let alone ironing.
Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest I feel a lot better. Anything you need to talk about?
P.S. Hot tip, don’t iron your polos, send them to the dry cleaner.

While returning some shoes at Nordstrom this week, I stopped by the men’s fragrance counter to pick up a new facial scrub. By the way, Jack Black’s mentholated scrub is the shit. Anyhow, after flirting with the silver foxes behind the glass counters, one invited me to smell some of their new fragrances. Read more
bar+barbershop= “MR.”
April 17, 2007 by Cash · 2 Comments
Two Stanford grads have started an upscale barbershop that also features a full bar & lounge. “MR.” had its debut in San Francisco but the two partners hope to spread the concept to other urban hotspots (Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York and Chicago) in the future.
Rather than a pay per cut business model, MR. offers monthly memberships that allow for haircuts (& follow up trims) as well as admission to the bar / lounge.
Online Shoe Shopping at Nordstrom
April 16, 2007 by Greg · 2 Comments

Shopping online with Nordstrom comes at a price higher than its competitors: your time and your money. In online shopping it used to be enough to just put your catalog online. Then to compete you needed to offer free shipping. Now, with offerings like free overnight from Zappos and 2 day no minimum amazon prime, it takes a little more to keep up. Read more

The Head Scrub: Essential For a Shaved Head
April 10, 2007 by Greg · 2 Comments

Exfoliating is a key component in keeping a good looking shaved head. When I bought my head shaving razor recently, I got the the whole kit to go with it for no better reason than they sold a whole line of products. Included was an exfoliating scrub for the scalp. Read more
Headshaving With a Razor vs Clippers
April 9, 2007 by Greg · 6 Comments

This weekend I made the move from a shaved head via clippers to a shaved head via razor. I made the move for one main reason, ease of maintenance. It’s far easier to shave my head with a razor in the shower than a multi-step clipper ritual approach. Read more

There is a new term being used to describe a certain demographic of man. “Heteropolitan” typically refers to a man who:

Bing Bang - Jewelry For Men
I recently picked up a Bing Bang necklace, and although the chain was too much on the hot side of gaudy for my tastes, the line is nothing but interesting.
Building on the raw and elegant style of the past women’s collections, the men’s line of Bing Bang references the Gangs of New York-era by trying to achieve a simplicity and roughness rather than the polish and gloss of a lot of the men’s jewelry already out there. This rough and tumble 19th-century era may not immediately bring images of jewelry to mind, but much of the inspiration comes from the spirit of the times. Read more

Fashion Watches: Paying for the Label
March 28, 2007 by Greg · 3 Comments
It all started with the notion to collect more accessories. I looked at necklaces, rings, and bracelets till the idea came to me to invest in a nice watch. I navigated to Sak’s and Nordstrom’s and found their watch department. Knowing that many designers farm out their creation to third parties, I decided to see who was behind these designer watches.
