goldfrapp happiness video
“Happiness” the 2nd single from the sublime “Seventh Tree” features a video that is, in a word, amazing.
From the perfectly sync’d jumping of the young man at the video’s center (almost remniscent of some of the home grown Daft Punk YouTubes, Harder Better Faster Hands, etc) to the multiple cameo appearances of Alison herself in [...]
The trashiest white trash movie ever is easily “Gummo”. “Starring”(?) Chloe Sevigny and a fellow cast of relative unknowns, Gummo follows a group of people through a series of fictionalized (I sure hope) vignettes taking place in the backwater town of Xenia, Ohio.
The topics touched on are not for the faint of heart.
The picture that sold a million tickets.
Wachowski brothers or not, I really had no desire to see Speed Racer. Then I came across the picture above of UM reader favorite Christina Ricci in her ‘Trixie Fontaine’ get up.
I’m sure I’m not alone in saying, I’ll be there May 9th-ish
An interesting interview with the lovely lady herself, as well as [...]
art of li wei
Amazing photo goodness from Chinese artist Li Wei.
His work is a mixture of performance art and photography that creates illusions of a sometimes dangerous reality. Li Wei states that these images are not computer montages and works with the help of props such as mirror, metal wires, scaffolding and acrobatics.

poll: hottest milf in hollywood?
I’m an opinionated ass. It’s a responsibility I take very seriously. One of the opinions that’s been pissing my friends off en masse lately is this: Jessica Alba getting pregnant has totally turned me off.
I’m not saying I could never, ever imagine having my wicked way with her.
She would just have to [...]
star wars steampunk
In what may well be the dorkiest thing I’ve ever posted here on UM (yet!), I present to you some dood’s sweet steampunk versions of Star Wars action figures.
I don’t care where you’re from, R2D2 looks bad ass.
If you’re not familiar with the whole ’steampunk’ concept, a quick wiki overview:
chuck palahniuk snuff book tour
UM idol and all around kick ass guy Chuck Palahniuk is heading out in support of his new book “Snuff” next month.
Not only will he be reading from the book, but (take a seat for this next bit) rumor has it, they will be screening an advance preview for the movie version of Choke.
Do what [...]
DEMF is Coming
While I’ll be in Hawaii for my friend’s wedding, the Detroit Electronic Music Festival will be under way for it’s 9th year in a row May 24-26th. Living in Michigan, and even for a year after I left, I attended this festival in its first 5 years. While some may flock to the Winter Music [...]
Perusing my Firefox bookmarks for UM post material this morning, I came across something I didn’t recognize. It was a direct link to the (pretty much NSFW) ‘event photos’ here.
I have absolutely no idea when this link was added to the collection, but I can probably figure out why. Perusing her root web [...]
doors open denver 2008
Once a year, downtown hosts an open house called, well, “Doors Open Denver” naturally. All manner of cultural / business establishments offer free tours, sneak peeks and the like. It’s a chance to go behind the scenes and check out some of the city’s architecture at the same time.
It’s a also great excuse to spend [...]
entourage 5th season postponed
The mysterious subscription I currently have to Entertainment Weekly - that’s right, I neither ordered it nor pay for it - brings some bad news this month. Due to the writer’s strike, the 5th season of Entourage won’t start until September. What’s worse? It may only feature 12 episodes instead of the planned 14.
The season [...]
For Valentine’s Day this year I received a delightful little book by Edward Monkton. The story, A Lovely Love Story, is about two dinosaurs that fall in love and overcome their displeasure with each others love of shopping and love of things. I then fell in love immediately, with Edward Monkton that is.
21 movie preview
Just over a week until the big screen adaptation of Ben Mezrich’s awesome “Bringing Down The House” opens. I’m more than a little excited. Not only was the book instrumental in kick starting my own card counting interest and subsequent obsession, but the movie’s being produced by, and stars, Kevin Spacey. “21″ chronicles the mid [...]
steampunk mac mini mod
Getting more excited by the day about my pending upgrade to a mac mini, I’ve been coming across all sorts of cool stuff online.
For instance, this steampunk mac mini mod that Dave Veloz made as a wedding gift for his bride to be.
It’s a jawdropping work of art that reminds me of one part Mirror [...]
Florida Skunk Ape
Recently while watching a rather strange bit of programming on Animal Planet I learned about the disputable existence of Florida swamp monster the Skunk Ape. I prefer the variant Stink Ape, providing both fun and accurate description when applied to the vagrant bartenders my temporary roommate charitably brings home to host on our extra couches.
u23d movie review
Several years ago, during the first leg of their “Vertigo” tour, I saw U2 at the Pepsi Center. Well, ’saw’ isn’t exactly the right word. Through an entirely unfunny ‘comedy of errors’ getting our $85 tickets, we ended up sitting behind the stage.
Waaay behind.
As in, behind the stage AND behind a two story stack of [...]
name that picture
At my old place, I used to like leaving a strange/interesting picture on my countertop, along with some paper and a pen. When people would come over, I’d ask them to jot down their thoughts on it. Some would try to title the ‘piece’, others would just comment. Here’s your chance to join in the [...]
If there’s one thing I miss, it’s my membership to the Denver Art Museum. I received one as a gift years ago and used it constantly. For quite awhile after that, I bought one annually and took advantage of the great savings it offered. Its value was most apparent when blockbuster travelling exhibits arrived.
An example?
“Inspriring [...]
sleeveface
Morrissey Album Cover Picture - Sleeveface
Some internet phenomenons almost pass me by. “Sleeveface” for instance. The name pretty much says it all. Check out the Sleeveface pool on Flickr for more.
Mad props to Mike, who’s discovering gems like this when not busy racking up frequent flyer miles chasing Depeche Mode around the globe.
See another UM approved example [...]
There was a time when M. Night Shyamalan could do not wrong in my scary movie loving eyes. The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs are all classics for me. Then came The Village. Unnerving trailer, excellent concept, great cast: completely pissed away by the most ridiculous ending perhaps ever.
Totally bewildered at his [...]
you’re a pervert
Here I am, linking perfectly innocent footage of an artiste crafting adorable family-friendly drawings, and you’re over there snickering at the completely coincidental anatomical shapes. For shame.
Props to Donnie and his untarnished halo for the link
