best gadgets for writers

Writing everyday can be a challenging task, just from a motivation standpoint.
Add to that the monotany of being chained to a desktop PC, and it can easily become an exercise in frustration.
To counter this, we of the UM tribe will sometimes schedule outings to various wi-fi enabled cafes and bars with the sole purpose of working in a fresh environment.
Still, I for one could unshackle myself even further by getting some tools which would allow me to work whenever the mood strikes.
Wired blog to the rescue then, with an essential list of must-have gadgets for writers.
Two of my favorites:
1. A digital recorder, for capturing interviews and stream of consciousness ideas to be transcribed later.
2. Unlimited public transport access
Exploration is about the most useful activity a writer can indulge in. For city-dwellers, to whom cars are impractical and cycles sheer suicide, forking out for an unlimited pass on public transport—and using it—is an expensive alternative.
It will find you wandering into every inspiration and lesson the town has to offer, and offer plenty of time to tap out your experiences while someone else worries about the traffic.
I can definitely vouch for the mind altering experience of taking the Route 15 bus up Colfax on a Friday night.
