beer: affordable luxury + makes you hungry
July 7, 2008 by Cash
Two quick comments on beer, glorious beer:
Beer is an affordable luxury. To get a six pack for $8 or $9 is still a good deal. You can buy five of the best beers in the world for under $10. To do that with wine you’d have to take out a second mortgage.”
(That’s not to say beer can’t be steep — Sam Adams’ Utopias costs more than $100 a bottle.)
We say beer is just as good as wine if not better (with food), and beer is a lot better than red wine with cheese,” Muller said. “Hops are great appetite stimulants, so if you have one (beer) before dinner, it will make you hungry.”
-Gene Muller, founder of Flying Fish Brewing Company

mmm utopia, nectar of the gods… at 25 % abv all you need is a little bit. but then the last time i had some i spent at least 15 minutes just smelling it in my snifter before even actually ever taking a sip.
great books about food and beer pairing: “she said wine, he said beer”, “the brewmaster’s table” big fan of a well paired meal. whether it be wine or beer.
nice one goat! i’ll have to check those out.
