Bachelor Pad: Balcony Furniture
March 26, 2008 by Greg

With spring ushering in longer days and warmer weather, I’ve started looking to spend more time on my balcony. Fantasies of drinking rich coffee, eating crisp garden salads, and sipping a glass of a big red wine preoccupy my mind. Looking around though, I see that most people fortunate to have balconies keep them like I do, sorely neglected.
Lucky enough to have an outdoor space in all of my past residences, I’ve done some unforgivable things. Either nothing, leaving it an empty space that I occasionally walk out, turn around, and head back in, or maybe a grill, a bike, and perhaps some extra storage. Once or twice I’ve put out camping chairs. Left outside, the $13.99 Walmart specials rusted, discolored, and in general, held more rain water than visitors’ rumps. All this for the arguably 10 most enjoyable square feet of my apartment.
Inspired by resort and day-spa themes, I decided to start shopping for outdoor furniture. Scouring for pieces that will last in the climates, look great, and offer 20 steps to a private getaway, I’ve come up with 3 options that fall under $500.
Here are my 3 picks:
CB2 - 2 Grasshopper Chairs and 1 Terrazzo Stool/Side Table

Total Cost With Shipping: $275
Room & Board - 2 Silver Aruba Chairs and 1 Seaside Accent Table

Total Cost With Shipping: $336
Design Within Reach - 2 Aero Chairs and 1 Prince AHA Stool

Total Cost With Shipping: $475

The Bosco, one of the local be-patioed lounges in ferndale down the street from The Newman’s house has those Prince AHA Stools sprinkled about.
they are not comfortable nor large enough to be very useful. recommend a better use of the funds.

I like the Room & Board ones.
Good info on the AHA stools. I’m planning on using them as side tables, and with my 2′ by 5′ porch, smaller is better. Just something to set a bottle of wine or the french press on.
I like room & board ones the best too…
