the google navy

This article, about Google considering moving its data centers to ocean borne barges makes me think of exactly two things. First? Scientolgy’s own “Sea Org“. Second? “Terrorist Bullseye in the water”.
How long before Google needs their own military forces to ‘defend’ their investments?
Sieg heil Fuhrer Googler!!
“Do no evil” indeed. Cough, cough.
setting up the impressive spare

Back when I used to bowl each and every Sunday night, I came up with a little phrase I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. If I didn’t knock down a single pin on the first go round of a frame, I’d call out to my friends
“Don’t worry, just setting up the impressive spare.”
Sometimes I was doing just that. Sometimes, not. Either way, I had my mind in the right place.
harder, better, stop it, stop it

Any regular reader knows my obsession with Daft Punk runs into the realm of madness. My adoration for the pyramid people truly knows no bounds.
Still, I have to admit I’m almost “harder, better, faster, stronger” re-mixed out. Yes, there are some great versions. But considering how much of their catalog remains untouched, remix wise, I wish someone would step up and get to work.
Two songs in particular demanding this treatment?

old magazines: best drink for sushi
September 9, 2008 by Cash · 2 Comments
If there’s one thing I’ve been craving lately, it’s sushi. (Hapa happy hour anyone?) According to a clipping I found in a well aged Maxim bound for the trash; sake may not be the best pairing;
quote of the day: work it real good
September 8, 2008 by Cash · 4 Comments

Being forced to work, and forced to do your best, will breed in you temperance and self-control, diligence and strength of will, cheerfulness and content, and a hundred virtues which the idle will never know.

thoughts on life: urban buccaneers

If you see some guy wearing an eye patch, and you call out “Ahoy, matey” with a mischevious smile; are you being a dick, or trying to help him feel more welcome?
Today, I almost found out.

This sweet slice of A/V dorkery needs to be seen, and heard, to be believed.
Don’t miss the goods that start around 1:35 especially.
Keep the sound up and your eyes open.

urban scavengers

Cutting thru Denver’s Civic Center park on my way home from work thru the brisk, fall-like night yesterday I saw something strange.
A man with a metal detector; making slow sweeping arcs across the freshly cut lawn. He was definitely a civilian, with a big beer belly spilling over his dingy, stained jeans. My first thought naturally was, ‘another kook, doing something kooky in the epicenter of kooksville, Civic Center park.’
Then I saw the others.
2008 modern drunkard convention review

Leslie, dishy drunkard diva
This past weekend was the annual Modern Drunkard convention. I was lucky enough to attend the closing ceremonies (well, pretty much all of the ceremonies happening Sunday).
A few thoughts on the experience:
capitol hill ice cream
September 2, 2008 by Cash · 2 Comments

Last night we checked out the new ice cream parlor @ 13th and Pearl, next to Fashion Nation.
The verdict? Decent. They serve Dryer’s ice cream which seems strange in a town full of boutique, in-house-made shops. Still, you can do a lot worse than Dryer’s. Less forgivable? The price. Our one scoop cups clocked in at around $2.85 with tax.
Good Times flavor of the day custard, one scoop? $1 + tax.

airstreams, wal-mart parking lots, and greg
August 29, 2008 by Cash · 2 Comments

After a dive bar happy hour, beer fueled discussion about dropping off the grid that can only be called bizarre, even by UM drunk talk standards, I went looking for pictures of Greg’s future dwelling.
If there’s ever been a picture that better sums up the man than this I’ve yet to see it. The article it’s sourced from speaks volumes:
The Airstream has become the kitschy darling of a young group of architects who are talking up the design virtues of trailers, shipping containers and other humble conveyances. Now the Airstream has its own place in the pantheon of design. This week the Museum of Modern Art in New York parked an Airstream from 1960, known as the Bambi Travel Trailer, in its lobby.
Now where’d I put the tofu dogs?
practice what you preach: i.t. edition
Having spent plenty of time as ‘tech support’ both for less computer savvy friends and my family (not to mention spending a large chunk of my day doing the same thing), there’s two hard and fast rules to fixing 99.9% of problems:
new york times not sucking for once
August 27, 2008 by Cash · 6 Comments

My disdain for the NY Times is legendary. Once in awhile though, they come through. Take a quote from today’s edition from an article about this micro, underground restaurant ‘clubs’ popping up in NYC (like Underground Carrot x1000):
Meat is murder. Tasty, tasty murder.
Ole!
