Hi guys!

I was thinking the other day what present should I buy for my friend. It was his birthday. I wanted something special, original and masculine. I couldn’t think of anything like that and I ended up buying a simple shirt. Anyway, I though this would be a great topic to post about at Urban Monarch, “Good Gifts for Men”.

I really like the website, keep it up like this.

Regards,
Bruno (from Argentina)

Hi Bruno,

Buying a friend a gift can sometimes be a tough item to purchase. If it is one of your best friends and a special occasion, it should be something thoughtful and personal. However for most guys on most occasions there are some easy, universal gifts that are appropriate . Personally I like to stick with temporary gifts that are either consumed or experienced. That way the receiving party isn’t getting stuck with something they have to hang on to forever just because it was a gift. I also try and buy something they would like but wouldn’t necessarily purchase for themselves.

A few suggestions:

Alcohol

Most people drink, and if they do, they usually have a preference of liquor, wine, or beer. Choose their libation of choice and it’s hard to go wrong. Also, the receiver will probably crack open their new present to share.

Events

There are plenty of events around to suit a man’s interest. This could be a concert, a sports game, a book signing or even a tequila tasting. Keeping their interests in mind an event should be easy to find. To make sure they have the date free, simply say “Keep this evening open, I’m taking you somewhere for your birthday.” Buy two tickets and you’re celebrating with your friend.

Meals or Drinks

Taking someone out makes it very easy to get them something they want. Simply tell the recipient you want to take them out for a birthday dinner/drink, ask their preferences and go. Pick up the check and you’re done.

Great suggestions all Greg (especially the alcohol: best. gift. EVER)

An additional one that would work for everyone in my life with the exception of Anti-DRM activist Greg; an iTunes gift card.

Not only is it a gift that keeps on giving (the songs will no doubt be played again and again) but the best part is how it’s saved my life a couple of times, LAST minute gift wise.

You can actually purchase and print one out from the iTunes music store, without ever leaving your house.

There have been a few nights where I’ve been running late or just suddenly remembered a birthday it’s proven a real lifesaver.

    Digital gift certificates are great.

Including: amazon and non-drm music emusic, audiolunch box et all.

A nice flask always works too so that way you don’t have to brown bag the bottle you bought your friend for his birthday. You can find them fairly cheap and even have it engraved if you want to make it really personal.

a good pocket knife is always good. I personally like Kershaw’s Leek. Nice size for pockets, ambidextrous opening for lefties and righties. and it just looks damn cool.

This are all great tips. Thank you guys!
