With so much exposure to music news, it can be a pain in the ass trying to follow up on all the great stuff I read about.  Usually, I’ll make a mental note for random bands I’m mildly curious about, and actually write down things I definitely want to preview on the iTunes music store.

Feist fell into the latter category when her latest disc ‘The Reminder’ came out in May.

I remember quickly scanning several tracks one warm Saturday afternoon, only to return to my own collection without giving Feist a second thought (or adding her to my shopping cart).

What the fuck was I thinking?

Today, while googling “Royksopp live” I came across ‘the oh so quiet show’; a New Jersey girl’s music blog.  After reading the Royksopp review, I started poking around and found a recent post singing Feist’s praises. She also had two tracks available online.

The next hour was consumed by listening, hypnotized, to the two songs over and over again.  Calling them beautiful would be insulting.  Leslie Feist’s smoldering, jazz like solo work seems equal parts Emiliana Torrini and.. dare I say it (hipsters, hide your eyes), Norah Jones.  The trembling vocals reveal a haunting, yet lovely emotional landscape ripe with vulnerability and regret.  A perfect counterpoint to the non-stop chaos of electronica I’ve been losing myself in as of late.

A quick review of Feist’s wikipedia entry revealed some interesting trivia as well; such as her longtime friendship with electrosex chanteuse Peaches (their two styles could not be more different).

Unless you’re allergic to gorgeousness, go here now and lose yourself in the world of Feist for a few minutes.

As for me, I’ll be making a mad dash from the train to my computer tonight, ready to buy “The Reminder” as soon as I get through the door.

Thanks to Robyn from the oh so quiet show for reintroducing me to such an amazing talent.

I skipped through this album when it was released feeling rather apathetic about it. A few months later, I was watching something where this was the background music. What was that awesome music? Feist. Ooops.
