To all our friends, sponsors, and supporters, thanks for making 2007 a great year for UM. We’ll see you back here on Wednesday with our normal posts.
Have a safe, happy new year’s eve everyone.
denver’s darwin award: 2007

Death is no laughing matter, but as the Darwin awards have proven; people love ironic / idiotic swan songs.
Rabbit in the Moon
December 28, 2007 by Greg · 6 Comments
New Year’s Eve is always a difficult decision. The clubs are always packed, the fellow patrons are too drunk, and the cabs are unavailable. This year in Denver, thinking about the dance clubs, there is one clear choice for dance music and it’s Rabbit in the Moon.
It’s either that, or this dork.
$10,000 new year’s eve
Leave it to UM friend and Las Vegas impresario Jack Colton (UM interview here) to bring this little gem to my attention. “The Bank”, a new club in the former home of Light (r.i.p Light.. what a fun venue) @ the Bellagio opens on New Year’s Eve. You commoners can attend via “general admission” pricing for $250.
Those wishing to live a little larger however, can dive in to a table reservation.
New Year’s Resolution: More Intimate Relationships
December 27, 2007 by Greg · 2 Comments
What I mean by this is not, more “intimate relationships,” but rather, “more intimate” relationships. I have a full social circle with a lot of friends. I’m thankful for this, but I feel at times it prevents deeper intimacy with a few individuals. What I aspire to in the new year is to be closer to my good friends.
pacific shaving all natural shaving oil review
December 27, 2007 by Cash · 5 Comments
Of all the products we’ve been sent for review, I was perhaps most skeptical of Pacific Shaving Company’s All Natural Shaving Oil. Why? For one thing, its size. According to the box, the 1/2 oz (think bottle of eye drops) package was supposed to contain ‘up to 100 shaves’.
New Years Resolution: Be More Emotive
December 27, 2007 by Greg · Leave a Comment
One of my new years resolutions for 2008 is to actively display more emotions. Perhaps is my male nature, my up bringing, or my resistance to vulnerability, but when I feel an emotion, I typically hide it and attempt to manipulate the situation that brought it on into something closer to my liking. For 2008 one of my goals is to express these emotions more freely.
10 dumbest and/or funniest usb gadget gifts
December 26, 2007 by Cash · 4 Comments
For a final farewell to the Christmas season; here’s 10 truly stupid USB gadgets I’m glad I didn’t find under the tree. (I don’t think even my “Dance Dance Revolution” OBSESSED friend Zac would dare slip on the fro-tastic, USB powered “Dance Mat” pictured above.)
Sadly, this isn’t the worst of the bunch.
Quote of the Day: Ambition
December 26, 2007 by Greg · 2 Comments
If I had been married earlier in life, I wouldn’t have seen the double helix. I would have been taking care of the kids on Saturday. On the other hand, I was lonely a lot of the time.
build a dancing robot
Exobotics dishes up a customizable flash robot who’s a maniac, maniac on the floor. And he’s dancing like he’s never danced before. Choose a head, torso, legs, arms and even a heart. Then it’s time to get down, robo-style. My favorite move? The combo of 5+9.

merry christmas

Urban Monarch has some last minute shopping to do. By last minute shopping, I mean “an appointment to be face down in a bowl of egg nog”.
Happy holidays everyone, we’ll be back on Wednesday, December 26th.
Lord of the Yum Yums
December 21, 2007 by Greg · 3 Comments

Driving around chicago at 3am, the nameless late night radio programming introduced me to local acapella experimentalist Lord of the Yums Yums. I can’t really say much other than listen. Experience at the official page or myspace (has christmas carols.)
sailor jerry spiced navy rum
December 21, 2007 by Cash · 4 Comments

I’m not gonna lie to you. In our quest for the cheapest shooters possible (typically purchased for flights - see Greg’s piece here ) we’ve sunk pretty low. From 99 Bananas (?) to “Cherry Wave”, we haven’t been too choosy, especially at the 69-99 cent price point. Imagine my delight @ Argonaut liquor’s register last night finding “Sailor Jerry Spiced Navy Rum”. Being a fan of spiced rum in general, (and seeing the 99 cent price tag) picking one up was a no brainer. The label even looked fancy.
Upon arriving home I quickly realized three things;
- Sailor Jerry is 92 Proof. I can’t remember how potent Captain Morgan’s is, and I’m far too lazy to look it up, but damn, that seems strong.
- The only mixer in the house was some flat club soda
- Sailor Jerry + flat club soda ain’t half bad
Cherry Creek Cougars
December 20, 2007 by Greg · 3 Comments

One of my favorite stock lines is, “You are such a cougar, rawr!” Appropriate at almost anytime an interaction occurs with a female even just a year or two older, this quip has been proven countless times. With great interest, I saw this link on Artifacting concerning cougars in Denver. While the original article is missing, I think I’ve found a new t-shirt.
People are talking about the Cherry Creek North Cougars — older women who go out looking for younger men in Cherry Creek bars… Read more
america’s most lustful cities: #1, denver
December 20, 2007 by Cash · 4 Comments
Denver has a good reputation (in my opinion) for several things. First, we’re one of the fittest cities in the country. Also, we’re one of the drunkest. Now, (perhaps as a corollary to that last bit), we’re also the most ‘lustful’, at least based on some data from ACNielsen.
Vulva Original - Womanly Smells
December 20, 2007 by Greg · 5 Comments
Apparently you can now buy the true scent of a woman…
The erotic, intimate scent of an irresistible woman… The precious, vaginal odour filled into a small glass phial. The phial is shaken gently, only a tiny amount of the precious, organic substance is applied onto the back of the hand… and the irresistible smell that exudes from a sensuous vagina immediately intensifies your erotic fantasies and starts the film rolling in your head…
block lamp : moma store
Greg’s post about Silicone Placemats reminded me of my own discovery @ NYC’s Museum of Modern Art store. Harri Koskinen’s urban masterpiece “Block Lamp” is not only industrial-chic-essential for any well appointed loft, it’s also a practical way to add a classy touch of accent lighting just about anywhere.
Silicone Placemats
While visiting the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art’s gift shop, I ran across these very cool silicone placemats. Modern, hip, and accessible to guys who aren’t in to the phrase “table linens.” Read more
a feminist in favor of porn
December 19, 2007 by Cash · 2 Comments
The often interesting “Letters from a Broad” blog offers a somewhat startling (in my experience with feminist leaning women anyway) view on porn.
In fact, she goes so far as to suggest
I am absolutely convinced that porn decreases hostility towards women, increases acceptance of women’s sexual autonomy, and makes ordinary women safer
