jessica biel: not the new wonder woman
September 28, 2007 by Cash · 2 Comments

I always thought Wonder Woman was a huge dork. Her outfit and character never did anything for me. Then I heard Jessica Biel might be donning the satin shorts, and suddenly I found myself reconsidering. I was actually a bit, ahem, ‘excited’ about the Justice League of America movie. Sadly, it was not to be.

After Wednesday nights truly mind blowing experience at the Chemical Brothers show (2nd only to Daft Punk in sensory overload) my mind’s been drifting to thoughts of party-centric excursions.

Snorting Cocaine in Public

What would happen if you snorted coke in public? I’ve never even thought to ask that question, but apparently the folks at rader have things like this occupying their minds.
Last June, the New York Times proclaimed that attitudes toward cocaine were evolving: “You could go into a swanky party in New York and do a line and nobody would notice.” But is the city that never sleeps really that blasé about blow? To find out, we dispatched reporter Neel Shah—clad in his finest Club Monaco getup—to places swank (Graydon Carter’s Waverly Inn) and pedestrian (Starbucks), armed with a baggie of confectioners’ sugar and our lawyer’s phone number.
The result? A few dirty looks, people moving away, and handful of establishments that looked the other way. Check out White Mischief for pics and more info.

I count my blessings daily with regard to my personal happiness as of late. According to two recent studies, I’m not alone: men are happier than women.
New Mexican Food: Hatch Green Chile

I had no idea what New Mexican food was till I moved to the neighboring state of Colorado. I had no clue how good it can really be till I vacationed in Albuquerque. The center ingredient of it all is the Hatch green chile.
Named after the small town in southern New Mexico, this spicy pepper is harvested September thru October. During this time you’ll find many roadside stands roasting this pepper and selling it in bags up to 10lbs in weight. Most natives to the area buy in bulk during this season and freeze them to last through out the winter. Read more
the curtis hotel review - denver
September 26, 2007 by Cash · 2 Comments
Sometimes, inconvenience is the mother of indulgence. This was certainly the case over the past two nights, when renovations at Casa de Cash (stained concrete floors- oh yeah!) had me seeking refuge in a downtown hotel. After carefully reviewing my options, I decided on the retro-tastic hospitality of The Curtis.
I’m so glad I did.
UM Book Club: The King of Methlehem by Mark Lindquist - Part IV

Part IV
Pages: 179 - 235 (the end)
Characters
- Howard Schulz - Meth cook
- Wyatt James - Detective
- Martin - Initial tweaker narc turning informant
- Midget - New narc found at identity theft scene
- Amber - Second tweaker narc
- Brandy - Howard’s current meth lab host
- Porche - Brandy’s 12 year old daughter
- Joe - Brandy’s 10 year old son
- Suki - Wyatt’s girlfriend
- Mike Lawson - Prosecutor
The final installment of this book wraps up most things, but not all. We experience a few interactions that are simply dropped from the plot line. Howard visits Suki at her work and leaves her with a message for Wyatt. Wyatt gives Amber permission to start using again in order to get a warrant to raid Howard’s lab. However, neither of these points are revisited as the plot moves in a different direction. I found this an interesting twist. Read more
trovix: ultimate job search engine
September 26, 2007 by Cash · 3 Comments

Although I couldn’t be happier with my current gig (which for the corporate world is pretty cool indeed), I know a lot of people are ahem, ‘keeping their options open’. Why waste time with ol skool ‘dumb’ employment sites like Monster?
Now, there’s a job search engine that may just be smarter than you are.
Concentric Circles of Purpose

I’ve been lightly reading David Deida’s Way of the Superior Man in my spare time. A chapter titled, “Be Willing to Change Everything in Your Life,” described fulfilling life’s aspirations in a manner that has stayed with me.
As you open yourself to living at your edge, your deepest purpose will slowly begin to make itself known. In the meantime, you will experience layer after layer of purposes, each one getting closer and closer to the fullness of your deepest purpose. It is as if your deepest purpose is at the center of your being, and it is surrounded by layers of concentric circles, each circle being a lesser purpose. Your life consists of penetrating each circle, from the outside toward the center.

Goals in Threes
September 25, 2007 by Greg · 3 Comments

While I’ve been organizing, prioritizing, and tracking my personal goals, visions and projects, I’ve stumbled upon a bigger question. How much do I really want to accomplish?
The first answer that came to me was that I should aim to complete as much as I can. This seems simple, but it’s wrong. I can too easily fill my life with trivial projects, tasks, and goals, only to reach them and feel unsatisfied. The goals and tasks themselves become as much as an agent for change as they do a machine for distraction. Read more
top 3 reasons personal email should be allowed at work
September 24, 2007 by Cash · 3 Comments
I used to work for a company with a totalitarian lock-down on the internet that made the Chinese government’s attempts at online censorship seem feeble by comparison.
Literally; name a ‘category’ of website and it was likely Surf Controlled. Everything from shopping to reference (yes, reference) was unavailable. No banking, educational (forget about checking up on your course credits, etc) or YouTube either. Social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook? Get real. Health/nutritional? Fuhgetaboutit.
It should come as no surprise then that ‘web based email’ was out of the question. My Gmail access therefore, was restricted to home use. Did this stop anyone in the office from using the COMPANY email system then for PERSONAL use?

Delicious For Everyone

Being a steady pulse in the blogosphere, Urban Monarch attaches itself to most aspects of the social web. Part of our everyday habits include scouring websites like delicious, digg, and reddit for the coolest things on the web to share with our readers. Often these websites are even shared and bookmarked by our readers in turn. It’s a really cool movement that helps make UM possible. Read more
drug dangers: out of their league?
September 24, 2007 by Cash · 2 Comments
My recent fascination with better living thru chemistry led me to an assessment of ‘true’ drug dangers in relative terms. The results should shock the puritanical prohibitionist in all of us.
When it comes to danger, cigarettes and alcohol beat ecstasy, LSD and cannabis, according to a league table of the harm they cause.
how to piss off a girl
September 21, 2007 by Cash · 9 Comments
I’ve known a wide variety of women in my day. Girlfriends, family, friends, coworkers, bosses, etc.
Although each girl is unique and delightful in their own way, one thing seems to bind them all together. It’s a simple way you can accidentally (or I suppose, on purpose) piss them off:

cubicle coffee

I’ve long been a fan of the french press; especially for making great coffee when I’m not at home. Today I came across a site that has easy to follow instructions for upgrading your office java by using a french press at work. If you’ve avoided a french press thinking the brew process is complicated, have a look.
Laundering Money

Making sick amounts of money you don’t want the government to know about? Yeah me neither (wink.) Wisebread takes us through the hypothetical situation that you do have money to clean.
Money laundering is not a simple concept. It’s two simple concepts, because there are two different–in fact, nearly completely opposite–activities that are called money laundering. Here’s how to do both of them. Read more

Mapping Your Time
September 20, 2007 by Greg · 3 Comments
Organizing my life keeps me on top of my commitments and tracking my time has helped me see where my I’m losing productivity, but the burning question as of late is how much bandwidth I really have to accomplish my goals. Granted, with only a few hours of maintenance a week I can manage several projects, but in the end, it comes to what I have time to actually do. A one year old article from Life Hacker has helped me find the answer. Read more
