One Thing I’m Paranoid About: The Paradox of Choice
May 10, 2007 by Greg · 5 Comments

Sometimes, late at night, I worry endlessly about the paradox of choice. Cash spends his nights tossing and turning thinking about, among other things, the scientologists’ private navy (which he informs me is called Sea Org and is really a good candidate for things to be paranoid about.) I personally am more worried about what happens if I open the doors to all possibilities.
The paradox of choice is a component of decision theory, an area of human social studies that examines how we come to decisions. Decision theory generally concerns itself with how to make the best decisions, so the paradox of choice enters (and is named thusly so) because, statistically, the more choices you have, the harder it becomes to make an optimal decision. one thing i love: ethiopian food
May 9, 2007 by Cash · 5 Comments

Some cuisines have a way of creeping up on me. One minute, I’ve never even tried it; the next, I’m craving it constantly. Sushi was like this. I remember one fateful day around seven years ago when some coworkers essentially ‘dared’ me to join them for sushi at lunch. At the time, I got through it by thinking to myself “this is so so FRESH”, while not really appreciating the taste. Within a week though, I was drooling for more, and thus was born a life long obsession. (If you’re ever in Denver, I suggest Hapa, Sushi Han, and Sushi Den for getting your raw fish on).
The other night at the First Friday art walk, after an enjoyable encounter with a gaggle of cute young culture hounds and Greg’s statue-esq Eastern European wine server, we headed to Arada for Ethiopian food. I had an epiphany: I really love Ethiopian food.
Natalie Portman Lifecast

I was writing up an article on how to detect fake digital photographs of Natalie Portman nude when this little gem came into my inbox, The Natalie Portman Lifecast. Coincidence? I think not. Read more
the 30 second socializer: confidence in three steps
May 9, 2007 by Cash · 3 Comments
One of the most difficult elements when improving your social skills is building confidence. It can be easy to rattle off some pre-rehearsed line or story; it can be far trickier to believe you’re worthy of a beautiful girl’s attention in the first place. Self image and self confidence, or what some might call ‘inner game’ are paramount to your success with women, and life in general.
Over the last year or so, in the process of improving my own social skill set I’ve discovered three simple things that can help boost your confidence, and they’re easier than you think.

Yesterday I received a pleasant surprise in the mail, the Sleep Tracker watch. This is the first product to make it in for our sleep products show down and it didn’t disappoint. While Cash and I will be both testing and reviewing these lines of products extensively, I wanted to share just a quick preview. Read more
cologne and perfume reviews

The other night while perusing the fragrance event and enjoying the free champagne and desserts, I found myself at the Armani table. I was very excited to try out the new “Armani Attitude” scent. One reason being how much I enjoy ‘Armani Mania”; crisp, fresh yet still rather masculine. A difficult balance to strike. The other reason though is Attitude’s bottle, which looks like either a chic flask or an oversized zippo lighter, depending on your vice of choice I suppose. Either way, very cool.
Spare Cellphone Batteries
May 8, 2007 by Greg · 4 Comments

In my quest to keep a charged cellphone, I am overly excited about spare batteries. While the USB charger wins in the portable charger category, the spare battery wins in convenience. I am so over joyed I’ve turned into an evangelist.
born rich: ultimate guide to the most expensive things in the world
May 7, 2007 by Cash · 3 Comments

Sometimes I’m still amazed by the serendipity of the interweb. For instance, who would have thought that my search for the name of a $600/bottle of perfume (it’s Black Orchid, by Tom Ford ) we smelled last night at Nordstom’s Spring Fragrance event would lead me to another juicy luxury blog. This one surprisingly, out of India.
Meditation: A Yogic Introduction
May 7, 2007 by Greg · 3 Comments

I had a girlfriend in college who was always trying to get me to do yoga with her. It took only one attempt to dangle my own junk in my face and from then forward I reluctantly obliged her practice. I graduated, moved to a new city, and for reasons both frustrating to her and unbeknownst to me, I took up an active yoga practice. Now it is a touchstone in my life that reappears to provide answers from time to time. Read more
poll: favorite casino game?
May 7, 2007 by Cash · 4 Comments
With summertime fast approaching & Urban Monarch’s annual pilgrimedge to Las Vegas not far behind, my mind is on two things; Gambling and sunning myself at a poolside cabana, chilled cocktail in hand. Although I’ve been known to squander some time and money at ridiculous games of chance (Chuck-a-luck, Mechanical Horse Races, Casino War to name but three) my true table love is Blackjack.

Microbia: Digitally Rendered

I just spent the last 15 minutes drooling over the shorts from Microbia. Duet, featured above, is one of my favorites. This could be due to my strong obsession with ballerinas. I now have an urge to buy a big plasma and put together streams of these clips to entertain my guests.
Check out Microbia’s youtube and website for more clips.
style: clothes that fit - finding smaller sizes
May 4, 2007 by Cash · 3 Comments
I have an in-depth feature on tailoring in the works, but for now I came across a quick blurb about finding fitted clothes if you’re not ‘athletic’ (or ‘overweight’ for that matter).
Susan Huston, writer of the “Ask a Fashionista” column in the North Texas’ Star Telegram was recently asked about shopping tips for men who wear smaller sizes.
How We Crush
May 3, 2007 by Greg · 2 Comments

The New Yorker is currently featuring a selection of four short quips from humor writer Paul Simms. The fictional love affairs, lasting anywhere from 17 seconds to a life long 45 minutes, detail the relatable nature to which we quickly decide whom to fall in love with. Subtle crushes evolve, twist and turn, til the love evaporates. Read more
dream machines : science fiction meets sleep
Over the past several months I’ve found myself becoming a student of sleep. For the most part, this has been the result of a move towards Biphasic sleep (an on-going process to be sure). Beyond that though, I’ve been doing some reading regarding the purpose of sleep, how to get the most out of it, and different factors that can adversely affect it.
One of the most fascinating things I’ve come across are efforts to shape the nature of our dreams through various mechanical means.
USB Cellphone Charger

Last night I came home to a big plastic white envelope with customs tags from Hong Kong. A few weeks ago, determined to solve the problem of a perpetually dead cellphone, I sought out all the possible portable charging options. Till I ripped open the package, I almost forgot that I had the full gamut of cell phone charging options on special order. Read more
Start a Harem
May 2, 2007 by Greg · 3 Comments

I have a few friends that are proponents of multiple long term relationships (or MLTRs if you want an acronym). They actively pursue and engage in relationships with multiple partners. This is not adultery, as all parties are typically aware of their mates activities and intentions. In a sense, they are pursuing the modern day harem. Read more
