Wealth is a Mindset
January 11, 2007 by Glenn · 9 Comments

Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase “wealth is a mindset.” If you haven’t, it means that lasting wealth is about 80% due to the beliefs you hold about money, investing, and wealth accumulation. 20% comes from the physical actions you take to get wealthy (investing, starting a company, winning the lottery).
If you have heard the phrase “wealth is a mindset,” have you paid it any attention?

I’m guilty of a lot of things.
Enjoying the occasional adult beverage. Or five. Indulging in online porn. (Strictly for the articles, natch.) Eating a chili-cheese covered Big Bite at 7-11 whilst stumbling home from another night on the town.
But one thing I’m guilty of apparently has the potential to raise the ire of my close friends and soon to be ex-aquaintances:
Two tips for Shaving

Shave with the grain and rinse with hot water. The straight dope responded to two reader submitted questions with the aforementioned answers. However back when I was shaving (now I maintain a constant stuble), going with the grain always left me with a piss poor shave. Read more
Sex: Tantric Sex Background

This week in the sex column I am introducing a new topic I’ve been curious about lately, tantric sex. You’ve probably heard the phrase before and have an assumption or two about it what it means. I personally thought it was only an esoteric sex practice till I ran across the word while learning about yoga and Hinduism. Read more
music: itunes hack - track # smart playlist
January 10, 2007 by Cash · 2 Comments

I remember the chaos when the original iPod shuffle was released.
I rushed out the day before Easter to Micro Center, where there were reports a shipment had just arrived (yes, there was that kind of fervor about even the shuffle when it first dropped).
After ecstaticly loading my new toy (I named it “Little 15″, after the Depeche Mode song..oh yes, I’m quite clever)with music for the first time I began poking around online reading about it.
One thing that seemed to come up again and again, were people theorizing that their shuffle could somehow ‘read’ their mood, and would play music accordingly.
I was intrigued.
Apple iPhone

Cash posted in December the Must Have Gadgets for 2007. I think all of them have just been trumped by Apple.
As the resident Apple fanboy at Urban Monarch, let’s take a quick look at the iPhone.

how to: men’s homemade facial mask
January 9, 2007 by Cash · 3 Comments

If you’ve got a dirty mind, like, let’s say for instance Greg, you may have a picture in your head of ‘facials’ that’s based on some movies you keep hidden in the closet.
Truth be told though, an excellent addition to any man’s skin car arsonal should be an occasional facial.
A facial is more than a luxury–it’s hygiene for the skin,” says Nina Curtis, aesthetician and founder of The Nile Institute skin-care center in Beverly Hills, California. As the largest organ in the body, our skin is in a constant state of renewal, shedding dead skin cells every 28 days Facials help remove this dead-cell buildup, rejuvenate the skin and help it function properly, says Curtis, who adds that without this step, your skin can look dull or break out.
Lucky for us, a facial need not be a costly nor time consuming task.

poll: new year’s resolution
January 8, 2007 by Cash · 4 Comments

Far be it from me to imply any of our well balanced readers could use any improvements in the new year.
Farther be it that I should suggest anyone would be zany enough to make a ‘new year’s resolution’ in order to achieve these goals.
But, for the sake of, well, people being drawn like a moth to the flame each January to these very decisions, I’d like to know what you think.
For me, a new job AND getting back into the gym (for the better part of last year I spent 6 days a week slaving away in there) are on the horizon.
And you?

Intrepid explorer and normal Open Forum contributor Greg is currently stuck on a snowbound bus headed to Boulder. He’s asked me to pose this week’s question to our always informed, well dressed readers.
His take on sports, which is the general consensus of the entire UM crew is simple: “I Hate Sports”.
What about you?

drinking: home bar basics - tequila
January 4, 2007 by Cash · 3 Comments

In the 1950’s and 60’s, visitors to Mexico wishing to sample the local hard liquor of choice, Tequila, were often ‘rewarded’ with a vile, unaged, uncut tarantula’s brew poured just after it slid down the still.
For this reason, a certain machisimo was associated with the spirit, and when it comes to doing shots at your local bar this stigma remains.
Nowadays though, Tequila comes in as wide a variety of flavors and qualities as Scotch. It’s also an essential ingredient for your home bar, not only for its place as the foundation of a good Margarita, but also as a sipper in its own right.

music: rca lyra RD900W review
January 3, 2007 by Cash · 2 Comments

Digital music in the living room: the final frontier.
In this world of high speed DSL, bit torrents and even my personal online obsession, the iTunes music store, it’s easy to amass a sizeable music collection on your computer.
Unshackling it from the desktop and rocking out during parties can be a puzzling proposition.
There are several options for using a wireless network to accomplish the task (SoundBridge and Sonus to name two), but they all tend to have the same two drawbacks: expense (Sonus is over a grand) and the inability to play tracks purchased through iTunes (it’s a licensing thang, Greg, insert anti DRM rant here).
The solution: RCA’s Lyra.

I have to admit to stumbling upon a guilty pleasure in that regard recently, and I’d be remiss to keep it to myself.
