This is a repost from November 2006

Last night, I found myself clicking through the images of some bespoke pornography I have saved on my computer. Custom tailored for me, by someone far away, it’s one of the greatest presents I’ve ever received. I thought, aside from just flipping on the camera and getting to it, there has to be a better way. drinking: new belgium 2 below product review

Denver, yesterday;

A winter wonderland of road rage fueled birds being flipped, horns being honked, and cars sliding about on the skating rink of I-25.

But not for me.

With a bemused smile I watched the antics of the poor fools trapped in their cars from the cozy warmth of the light rail train.

My commute? The usual 40 minutes. Not a second longer (and certainly not the 4 1/2 hour nightmare a coworker who lives just north of the city had to contend with)
The blizzard of 2006 was not without its blessings; including an early release from work yesterday that found me at home by noon.

Make a cup of hot cocoa, sit back, and enjoy listening to a modern-day holiday classic. Humorist David Sedaris recounts his days as a Christmas elf at the Macy’s department store in New York City.

Dark, understated hilarity ensues.

Listen to David Sedaris’ Santaland Diaries.

(If you’re looking for a holiday gift idea, a David Sedaris book is sure to go over well… presuming they have the appropriate sense of humor)

music: rabbit in your headlights video

December 20, 2006 by Cash · 1 Comment

I’ve long been a huge fan of Radiohead, and always keep my eyes open for Thom Yorke’s work on other projects. One of my favorites was his contribution to U.N.K.L.E’s “Psyence Fiction” album.

Moody, melodic, and featuring not only Thom’s wispy vocals but a sample from the cult classic film “Jacob’s Ladder”, the track already had a lot going for it.

This video takes the claustrophobic psychosis one step further.

Watch till the end. Trust me.

Flame On: Public Schools Create Mindless Drones

Most of us assume that the current public school system was well-planned and researched, with the goal of giving America’s kids a good education and form the foundation to “live the American dream.” It couldn’t possibly have the goals of making children conform, accept authority without critical judgement, and filter them so they can be slotted into the appropriate social cog. No, of course not.

I for one have always preferred brunettes to blondes.  For me, there’s something inherently more exotic and intriguing about dark features than light.

Apparently, I’m not the only one.

According to a recent survey; “The perfect woman is a curvy, brunette nurse”

According to an excellent article in the Taipei Times, suits are making a comeback for the young, hip, 20’s & 30’s set. This probably means you, so listen up.

“Guys in their 20s and 30s aren’t dressing like they’re going to a funeral or a wedding, but using classic elements in new ways,” the editor said. “The moment we’re in is that it’s far more aesthetically pleasing and stylish to wear suits. Men have a renewed appreciation for the finer things and elegance.

I’m a big believer that intelligence isn’t predetermined at birth — it’s something you can actively cultivate. Whether that’s true or not is up for debate — but believing it certainly doesn’t hurt. So, how do you beef up the noggin?

We here at UM tend to be a rather restless bunch, and it seems not more than a few months can pass between our jaunts around the country.

Our next excursion will be a first for all of us; Phoenix in January. (If any of you have suggestions on nightlife for us to check out while we’re there, let us know in the comments)
