October 31, 2006 by Glenn · 2 Comments

I’ve always thought my photography skills could use some improvement. Too often the pictures end up boring and run-of-the-mill. So, how to get better?

Flame On: Transhumanism
October 31, 2006 by Greg · 4 Comments
I was in my apartment playing, albeit a little too loudly, an electronic dj mix by armin van burren when my neighbor knocked on the door. After complimenting me on my choice in music, he invited me to a party at his place later that evening. From that point we started a friendship in which he shared with me topics like military technologies, gaming as entertainment, and the most shocking, transhumanism. Read more
drinking to your health

Being a lover of libations keeps me constantly on the lookout for any additional benefits of enjoying a stiff drink.
A recent study indicates that moderate drinking seems to contribute to a healthier heart.
(I read about this on an Australian web site where I was also delighted to learn three new drinking terms: pot, stubby and nip. )

Following on the 10 traits of natural seducers, Zan’s second DVD is about the situation modern-day men and women find themselves in. Specifically, men are confused about how women want them to act. And women have been let down time and again in their relationships with men… because the men are confused.

I was having a discussion this weekend with a lovely young lady bemoaning the decline of Playboy magazine. In perusing the November issue together, it was quite apparent that Hefner and Co. have a real predjudice for blondes. Read more
30-30 reposado tequila : product review

I’ve never been a fan of tequila straight.
Margaritas? Sure. Especially with a nice salty rim on a hot summer’s day.
Sipping tequila, or even doing shots of it, seemed more like taking my medicine (and a flaming, gag reflex inducing medicine at that) than enjoying a drink.

Biscuit. Catch the vapors. Ice. Deciphering rap lyrics isn’t the easiest thing to do. But Bill Maher has translated some classic rap verses into “white-speak,” with hilarious results.

The 25 Most Stylish Films of All Time
October 26, 2006 by Glenn · 2 Comments
If you’re looking for a bit of fashion inspiration, check out GQ’s feature of the 25 most stylish films of all time. I’m partial to classic looks like Steve McQueen in Bullitt or Robert Redford in Three Days of the Condor.
Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange… well, I’ll leave that look for others to try and pull off.
Are there any films missing from the list? The Matrix and Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet come to mind.

The seductive power of scent.
I’ve always been amazed by its hold over me. There’s nothing quite as surprising as walking through a bar or bookstore and passing a woman wearing the same perfume that an ex-girlfriend of mine wore.
Almost instantly, I’m transported back to our most passionate moments together.
How To Be Punctual
October 24, 2006 by Glenn · 2 Comments
Some people are always on time, but I’d hazard a guess that most of us have occasional punctuality problems. WikiHow’s article on how to be punctual has some good tips.
- Don’t be an optimist. Things usually take significantly longer than you’d expect, even without major delays.
- Wake up when you’re supposed to wake up. Acquire the habit of sitting up, stretching, and getting out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off.
- Commit yourself to being 15 minutes early for everything, and bring something you can read in short segments everywhere you go.

Flame On: The Beginning of the End of America
October 24, 2006 by Glenn · 4 Comments
Welcome to the first installment of Urban Monarch’s new “Flame On” series. The purpose of Flame On is to let Urbman Monarch contributors post ideas and articles that we feel should be known about, but are likely to be controversial (or downright crazy).
The topics for Flame On are chosen by the individual poster, not by an Urban Monarch consensus. Consequently, the posts don’t represent Urban Monarch’s opinions as a whole (and not even necessarily the opinions of the individual poster).
play better blackjack
October 23, 2006 by Cash · 4 Comments
Blackjack is binary.
For every decision you face during the course of a hand, there is a right and wrong way to play.
These decisions have been statistically proven and when followed exactly, will give you a disadvantage of only 1.5% against the house; one of the lowest of any casino game.
This method of playing is called ‘basic strategy’.
It’s very good, but memorizing it can take some time, and for the recreational player (aka not blackjack obsessed like myself) can seem like more trouble than it’s worth.
For this reason, when friends and students alike of mine begin learning the game, I am often asked the same question;
“Arn’t there some basic rules I can follow to improve my chances?”
