20 things to do in NYC
August 29, 2007 by Cash
I’m feeling an incredible pull towards a Manhattan weekend this fall. Thanks to amNY I’ve got more than a few ideas for fun.
Broken down into two categories; “Hip” and “Traditional”, the list includes a few of my old favorites (Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, general East Village craziness) and plenty of ideas I might have missed.
Some favorites;
Drinks at the Maritime Hotel
The Cabanas rooftop bar at this Chelsea hotel is a very hot spot to grab a drink and watch the beautiful people. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday, 8 pm to 3 am, and it’s only a few Blahnik steps away from Pastis, Plunge and the other hot spots. (363 16th Street at 9th Avenue; (212) 242-4300); www.themaritimehotel.com
(ed note: I heard an interesting interview with Neil Strauss that involved meeting a, ahem, at the time virginal hottie at this very haunt. If the girls are cute enough for Style they’re cute enough for you.)
Shop at Century 21
Jusy like everybody else. Bargains are legendary: Think Moschino, Gaultier, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan et. al for about what you’d pay for some unknown schnook. Besides the clothes, there are good selections of sunglasses, lingerie, handbags, shoes, menswear, even great kids’ clothes — plus house stuff. Beware, though: the place is anything but unknown — hordes (and we do mean hordes) of tourists settle in, especially on weekends. Best to do your browsing during the week, midmorning, if you can. (22 Cortlandt Street, Manhattan (212) 227-9092 1000; 472 86th Street , Brooklyn; (718) 748-3266; www.c21stores.com )
and finally, something completely different:
The Beast or Screamer
If you’re looking for an excursion with added thrills, consider taking a ride on The Beast or The Screamer. These boats will zip you past such sites as the Brooklyn Bridge, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty — at a breakneck speed. Loud music blares, water balloon fights break out and expect to get wet from the spray from the waves as the boat picks up speed. These half-hour trips usually run from April or May until October. (The Beast, run by Circle Line tours; Pier 83 at W. 42nd Street and the Hudson River; 212-563-3200; http://www.circleline42.com/index.ihtml; The Screamer; Chelsea Piers at 23rd Street and the Hudson; 212-924-6262; www.chelseascreamer.com/

Shave! That is all.

does a great job of letting you know new stuff that’s coming out on a weekly basis
tend to stay away from a lot of the straight up touristy things (like the red bus or liberty boatride) whenever i happen into the city, which lately is at least once a month.
Flavorpill is awesome goat, thanks for the link.
